Catholic Central High School, in partnership with AmeriStaff Nursing Services, will provide onsite Covid19 PCR testing (Nasal Swab) for students and faculty. This initiative will support the school's educational return process, providing quality care and effective transparency for students and families.
Each test sample will be forwarded to Pathnostics Laboratory for testing and results should be returned within 24-48 hours. The COVID-19 PCR Test is a sensitive molecular test that targets the detection of three SARS-CoV 2 genes and provides information as to those patients that are currently infectious. PCR detects the genetic information of the virus, which is only possible if someone is actively infected. You can learn more about the Pathnostics, and their test, on pathnostics.com.
We have outlined the testing procedure below, and CC families with questions can contact our school nurse.
COVID-19 PCR Testing Process:
A student becomes symptomatic during the school day or notices symptoms while at home.
The parent or student notifies the nurse of these symptoms by calling or visiting the Nurse’s Office, calling 248-596-3820, or emailing Nurse@CatholicCentral.net
The Nurse’s Office will evaluate students and provide a recommendation for testing based upon screening results.
Parents will be sent a testing permission form and must sign a COVID-19 PCR Test Requisition form for the testing to take place. This form will be signed on the day of testing and can be submitted electronically via email. This Form will be made available through the parent’s’ myCC Portal.
Catholic Central will utilize the insurance information provided by each parent through the Magnus Health Forms or COVID-19 PCR Test Requisition form.
Once consent is accepted, our nurses on staff can move forward in providing the COVID-19 PCR test.
Student(s) will remain at home and quarantine pending the results of a test.
Pathnositcs will release results to AmeriStaff Nursing Services, who will disseminate results to Catholic Central and the Nurses on staff. Parents will be notified immediately upon receipt of results, who will notify parents immediately upon receiving results.
Based upon test results, Catholic Central and the Nurse’s Office will work with parents in following the Return to School protocol.
Testing has to conclude by noon on Fridays and any other day before scheduled days off.
*An inherent risk of exposure to COVID-19 exists in any public place where people are present. Despite Catholic Central High School and AmeriStaff Nursing Service’s best efforts to protect students, teachers, staff and visitors through adherence to recommended CDC guidance and state and local public health recommendations, exposure to COVID-19 may occur. In such cases, neither Catholic Central High School nor AmeriStaffNursing Services can be held legally responsible for inaccurate test results, false positives, or false negatives.
COVID- 19 is a contagious viral illness that spreads in the air through coughing, sneezing, and talking. Recent information suggests COVID-19 is spread by people who are not showing symptoms. It may be possible that a person can get COVID-19 by touching a surface or object that has the virus on it, then touching their own mouth, nose, or possibly their eyes. Symptoms include fever, cough, shortness of breath or difficulty breathing, fatigue, muscle or body aches, headache, new loss of taste or smell, sore throat, congestion or runny nose, nausea or vomiting, and diarrhea.
If your child does develop symptoms, we urge you to get your child tested for COVID-19.
For information regarding the clearing protocol and positive cases protocol please view our return to school plan.
Testing locations can be found using the COVID-19 Test Finder at https://www.michigan.gov/coronavirus. If your child tests positive for COVID-19 or is symptomatic and you do not wish to pursue testing, please keep him or her at home until they have been fever free for at least 24 hours and it has been more than ten days since the initial onset of symptoms.
