A Letter From Nurse Helm

Welcome to Detroit Catholic Central! My name is Nurse Laura. I am a registered nurse and I have been actively nursing since 2004.

Most of my career has been hospital-based. I spent my first five years working in respiratory critical care; the remaining years have been working in cardiac observation with a float nurse role. As a float nurse, I was able to have a broad nursing experience from working in special units like ICU, ER, cardiac care unit, and general surgical floors. I began my journey here at CC in 2020 during the pandemic and I have really enjoyed becoming a school nurse.

Since becoming a school nurse, I obtained an instructor certification through the American Heart Association so that I may teach CPR courses to health care providers as well as our own staff and students.

Working for the school has been a rewarding experience. I enjoy watching the students be active and having fun in school. I love being able to support the students throughout their school experience and see how much they transform year to year.

My door is always open to any student when they aren’t feeling well, but it is also open for when it's just been a bad day, or the stress is too much, or they just need to talk. Please feel free to reach me for any concerns or stop by the nursing office anytime. I'd love to meet you!

Sincerely,

Nurse Helm
