  • Applying for Freshmen Year

We want good young men at CC, so our application process is designed to let us get to know each applicant as well as we can.

      • Incoming 9th grade students should apply after their first marking period of 8th grade.
      • The application deadline for acceptance in January is December 21.
      • Students applying for 9th grade are required to complete the High School Placement Test and the application checklist.
    • High School Placement Test

      • The High School Placement Test (HSPT) is required for all incoming freshmen at Detroit Catholic Central High School. It is a standardized test developed to help us place incoming freshmen in the correct classes. With more than 60 feeder schools, it is important for us to have a common score for every incoming student.
      • The HSPT takes approximately 3 hours, and calculators are not allowed. Students should bring two #2 pencils, and there is a $40 testing fee (payable at the time of online registration or at the door).
      • 2018 Test Dates: Saturday, November 17 & Saturday, December 1
      • Link to register (live as of September 15)

      • Accommodations are only available on the December 1 test date. A completed HSPT Accommodations Request Form must be received by Tuesday, November 20 in order for a student to qualify.
      • CC does not offer or consider the optional Science portion of the HSPT.
    • Other Placement Tests

      • CC mainly uses the composite score and national percentiles from the Reading, Math, and Language sections of the HSPT. These scores allow CC to initially place students into classes for their freshman year (honors, regular, basic) or identify students who might need additional support during the summer.
      • CC offers additional subject placement exams for math and foreign language in the spring to better place students when necessary.
    • High School Placement Test Prep Classes

      • The CC HSPT Prep Course is meant to introduce the students to the HSPT and focuses on the Math, and English portions of the test, and also includes general test taking skills. The course will conclude with a scored practice test, and students will leave with a study book.
      • Cost for the Prep Course is $45/student, and space is limited to the first 100 students to sign up for the session. Students should only sign up for one session.
      • 2018 Dates:
        • Saturday, October 27 from 8-11am
        • Saturday, November 10 from 8-11am
    • Transfer Opportunities

      • Detroit Catholic Central High School accepts transfer students at the start of each semester, but does not accept students going into their senior year of high school unless there is a rare circumstance.
      • The academic rigor of CC is typically more demanding than other schools, so it is important that the student is placed correctly coming in. Meetings, transcripts, and course descriptions help in this effort.
      • Transfer applicants do not need to take the HSPT, but need to provide the following:
        • Current High School Transcript, with GPA above 2.5
        • Discipline and Attendance History
        • Complete Application
        • Essay about why they would like to attend CC (250-500 words)
        • Interview
