This week, Mark Anderson ’84 discussed the Supply Chain Management industry with Catholic Central High School students as part of the ongoing Career Speaker series Event.  

“My most important job as the CEO of a logistics company is to establish the culture. Shamrocks Celebrate Back-to-Back MHSAA D1 State Championships With Assembly

Today, Catholic Central celebrated the wrestling team’s 41-12 victory over the Hartland Eagles and subsequent back-to-back MHSAA D1 State Championship with a spirit day and school-wide assembly. It was the sixth title in the last eight years for the Shamrocks and the 10th state championship since 2010.

Fundraiser Basketball Game Held In Memory Of Jack Swamba ‘22

On Friday, December 29, 2023, a basketball fundraising game was held in honor of Jack Swamba ’22 at St. Edith Parish in Livonia. The game was a tribute to Jack Swamba’s tremendous spirit and character during his 19 years of life. Admission to the event was made possible by donating to the Jack Swamba ROTC Memorial Scholarship in his honor.

OCIT Students Take Next Step In Their Faith Journey

Five Catholic Central seniors - Patricio Ezdebski, John Harvey, Lucas Jraiche, Oliver Kammeraad, and Joseph Sievert - have been named finalists in the 2024 Competition for National Merit Scholarship Awards. These students have been selected from a group of 16,000 semifinalists, making them eligible for one of three scholarships awarded by the National Merit Scholarship Corporation.

Freshman Jon Creen '27 Hosts Drug Take Back Drive

Detroit Catholic Central High School Freshman Jonathon Creen, along with the help of Nurse Laura Helm, is honoring National Prescription Drug Take Back Day by hosting a Drug Take Back Event on Saturday, October 28 from 10 AM to 2 PM. The event will be held on the school’s campus at 27225 Wixom Road, Novi, Michigan 48374. There will be a drop-off tent located at the front drive.

Athletic Department Attends Jon Gordon's 'Get To' Talk

Detroit Catholic Central High School’s Athletic Department attended the “We Get To Inspire” speaker series featuring Best Selling Author Jon Gordon on October 17. The Get-To Foundation honors the legacy of Ben Jones, a Hillsdale college athlete who inspired others to consider obstacles as opportunities by shifting one’s mindset from “have to” to “get to.”

Dr. Patrick Hammer '04 Speaks Aerospace Engineering

On Friday, October 13th, Detroit Catholic Central High School Alumni Dr. Patrick Hammer presented to students in Rebecca Mulrooney’s class about his career in Aerospace Engineering and job as a Research Air Space Engineer at the United States Air Force Research Laboratory. He hopes to encourage more young men to pursue careers in the aerospace field, whether it is in STEM, the military, Air Force, or another branch of service.

Shamrock Runners Raise Record-Breaking $12,923 For Make-A-Wish Foundation

Runners who participated in Detroit Catholic Central’s 26th Annual Shamrock Shuffle raised over $12,923.13 for the Make-A-Wish Foundation of Michigan. This year’s donations topped last year’s record-breaking amount of $11,902, proving the Shamrock spirit continues to thrive year after year.

Catholic Central: A MI HEARTSafe School

In October 2023, Detroit Catholic Central High School became a MI HEARTSafe School. The award program began in 2013 and helps keep student athletes safe by screening for sudden cardiac death of the young (SCDY). The condition occurs when a young, seemingly healthy person suddenly dies from cardiac arrest or an unknown incident not related to drugs, suicide, trauma, homicide or long-term illness.

Finance Club Students Meet Jamie Dimon at Detroit Economic Club

Members of the Finance Club board at Catholic Central left school on Wednesday, September 20 to attend a meeting of the Detroit Economic Club. The guest speaker for this meeting was Jamie Dimon, the CEO of JPMorgan Chase Bank. Harold Lloyd Brock '51

Among the 140 member senior class - the Class of 1951 - was an ambitious graduate named Harold Lloyd Brock.  Harold matriculated to CC from the east side of Detroit where he attended St. John Berchmans school and parish.  Harold loved his time at CC and cherished his experience.  He was an active student who participated in the French Club, the school Drama Program including the production of Detective Story his senior year, the Monogram Club, and Football.

Robotics Selected for Indiana Robotics Invitational

The Indiana Robotics Invitational s a prestigious invitation only competition where the best teams from around the world are invited to compete over the summer on the 2023 Charged Up! competition. The Shambots made the cut of a select invite list out of over 100 team applications. Part of the team will travel to Lafayette, IN July 6-8 to compete.

Academic Team Places 8th in Nation

Varsity Academic Team competed against 304 schools in Atlanta, GA at the NAQT High School National Championship Tournament May 26 and May 27. The Varsity A team finished the preliminary games with a 7-3 record and qualified for the double-elimination playoffs. After losing in the opening round in the playoffs, the team rallied to win five consecutive games, including a win over #6 ranked Kinkaid (TX) to take 8th in the country. The team consisted of senior captain Will Carstens, who was named one of the tournament all-stars, and sophomores Nick Murray, Jacob Barta, and Ben Yancey.

Students Compete at HOSA State Leadership Conference

Catholic Central High School students recently attended the HOSA State Leadership Conference in Traverse City, Michigan. HOSA - Future Health Professionals is a club for students interested in pursuing careers in the healthcare industry. The event, which took place from April 26-29, brought together over 2,500 students from across the state to compete in more than 50 different events. Nine Catholic Central students participated in the competition and showcased their skills and knowledge in various events.

DECA Competes at International Career Development Conference

Detroit Catholic Central DECA recently competed at the DECA International Career Development Conference in Orlando. A total of 15 Shamrocks competed at the highest level, and two teams in the Virtual Business Challenge placed 8th and 12th respectively. Additionally, the chapter earned 4th place in the National Muscular Dystrophy Association Fundraising Challenge.

Loaves & Fishes of Southwest Detroit Award Catholic Central Diamond Food Donor Award

Catholic Central is honored to have been awarded the Diamond Food Donor Award by Loaves and Fishes of Southwest Detroit, presented by LFSD Board Members April 18, 2023. LFSD is a non-profit collaborative providing small pantries with the funding to assist residents in Detroit in breaking the cycle of hunger.

Robotics Qualifies for State Championship

The CC Shambots won the Livonia Championship for the third time, this time as the Captain, qualifying them for the state championship held in Saginaw. The team finished strongly as the #1 team in the qualifier round. Students designed, built, programmed, tested, trained, and executed at the highest level. The bot is strong and ready for Saginaw next weekend.

OCIT Students Prepare for Entrance into Catholic Church

Eleven students journeying through the Order of Christian Initiation of Teens (OCIT) at Catholic Central participated in the scrutinies with the support of their classmates during grade-level prayer services held March 30 in the chapel. The scrutinies, rites with roots dating back to the early Church, mark a final step in the students' preparation to be received into the Catholic Church on April 26 at an all school Mass celebrated by Bishop Hanchon of the Archdiocese of Detroit.

Hockey Wins MHSAA D1 State Championship

Detroit Catholic Central Hockey defeated Brighton 3-0 in the 2023 Michigan High School Athletic Association D1 State Championship Saturday night at USA Hockey Arena before 4,090 fans, marking four consecutive state championship wins for Shamrock Hockey. The program made MHSAA history, being the first team in the 49-year history of the MHSAA tournament to shutout their opponent throughout. The win marks Catholic Central's 95th MHSAA state championship win in school history.

Dillon Award Recipients: Where are they now? Harrison Nguyen ‘08

Harrison Nguyen’s interest in medicine began as a child. He knew from an early age that he wanted to help people live the best lives they could. Now, having earned his medical degree in 2018 and board certified in dermatology, he is currently on a Micrographic Surgery and Dermatologic Oncology Fellowship at the University of Pennsylvania, Nguyen is living out his mission to bring cures to those who need it most.

Earning Eagle Scout Rank Prepared David Creen ‘23 for Catholic Central and Beyond

Catholic Central Senior David Creen's Eagle Scout project was a true testament to his commitment to the Boy Scouts of America (BSA). An Eagle Scout is the highest achievement or rank attainable in the Scouts BSA program. To qualify, David worked tirelessly for weeks through the pandemic, gathering supplies and organizing volunteers, in order to create a beautiful patio of pavers surrounding the flagpole at his former school, Spiritus Sanctus Academy in Ann Arbor. Through hard work and dedication, David successfully completed his Eagle Scout project in 2020, but says ​​it was a long time coming to be able to fully complete his vision.

This year, ten members have joined the school’s Order of Christian Initiation for Teens (OCIT) program. Detroit Catholic Central National Honor Society (NHS) inductions took place Thursday, October 21, 2022 in the Robert Santello ‘58 Gymnasium. Parents and students gathered as Guidance Counselor and NHS Moderator Mr. Alan Barker, Principal Fr. Patrick Fulton, and Vice Principal Mr. David Lewis welcomed inductees into the society.

Academic Team Wins 2022 NAQT National Championship

The Detroit Catholic Central Academic Team traveled to Atlanta, Georgia May 27, emerging victorious as the national champions at the High School National Championship Tournament (HSNCT) of the National Academic Quiz Tournaments (NAQT). The win secures the program’s fifth national championship win and first HSNCT Championship win since 2001.

Annual Wrestling Assembly Match Brings School Spirit, Honors Oxford

The Shamrocks were victorious with a 64-4 win over Grandville, and live coverage was provided by student members of the Shamrock United Network.

The assembly match serves as an opportunity for Shamrock Wrestling to share its love for the sport with the wider Catholic Central community. While each year’s assembly match typically raises funds for a community need, this year’s cause was clear: honoring the lives lost last week at Oxford High School.

Music Department Performs Annual Christmas Concert

The Catholic Central music department held its annual Christmas concert assembly for the student body on the morning of Monday, December 6, 2021. The performance was an abbreviated version of the concert held for the broader community on the night prior, featuring the concert band, jazz band, orchestra, and symphonic band.
