The Catholic Central High School Golf Team won its seventh MHSAA State Championship over the weekend of June 7, 2024, held at Bedford Valley in Battle Creek. The team was led by Senior Captain Julian Menser, who shot 140 (70-70) over Friday and Saturday and won medalist.
Catholic Central’s Lacrosse Team won the 2024 Division 1 State Championship title with a 14-8 victory over Hartland. This was the team’s second State Championship title.
Detroit Catholic Central High School's Esports Team won the 2024 PlayVS Cup National Championship for Rocket League, held virtually on June 6. Catholic Central’s Esports Team participated in the Michigan High School Esports League (MHSEL) Spring 2024 Semi-Finals and Championships hosted at Oakland University, where two of their four teams (Rocket League and Super Smash Brothers) won the State Championships and qualified for 2024 PlayVS Cup, a National tournament.

On Friday, April 19, 2024, Catholic Central High School held a Drive Development Day teaching students about car maintenance. Students learned how to change a tire, check tire pressure, jump start a vehicle safely, replace windshield wipers, check oil levels and refill oil, and fill the washer fluid reservoir.
On Monday, April 22, 2024, Zach Sprys Tellner ‘17 and Ryan Kerry ‘10 discussed the benefits of becoming a firefighter and paramedic with Catholic Central students as part of the school’s career speaker series.
At the heart of every Goodness, Discipline and Knowledge Day at Catholic Central is the hope that students will take what they learn in the classroom and apply it to their daily life. On Wednesday, April 17, 2024, Detroit Catholic Central High School held its annual Spring Sports Assembly in honor of the current season. Also, during the assembly, Athletic Director Aaron Babicz ’93 announced Joe Curtin ‘24 as this year’s Whalen Award winner.
Seven Honors Chemistry students participated in the Science and Engineering Fair of Metro Detroit, competing against almost 600 high school students in the area. All seven students were recognized with various awards.
On April 13, the Varsity Academic Team secured its 13th consecutive State Championship title at the Michigan High School State Championship Tournament located on the campus of the University of Michigan.
The Ontario Hockey League (OHL) secured Catholic Central’s Brooks Rogowski ’26 in the Second Round and as the first American during the draft on April 12. He will be playing for the Oshawa Generals.

“My most important job as the CEO of a logistics company is to establish the culture. Students raised a grand total of $873,034.13 for need-based tuition assistance during the 2024 DRIVE, setting a new school record. This year’s total surpassed the 2023 DRIVE’s total of $802,814.13 by more than $70,000.
The Flying Shamrocks student organization took a field trip to the Yankee Air Museum located at Willow Run airport in Ypsilanti where they spent the afternoon interacting with aircraft that have been established throughout aviation history and participating in flight simulators.

On Friday, December 29, 2023, a basketball fundraising game was held in honor of Jack Swamba ’22 at St. Edith Parish in Livonia. The game was a tribute to Jack Swamba’s tremendous spirit and character during his 19 years of life. Admission to the event was made possible by donating to the Jack Swamba ROTC Memorial Scholarship in his honor.

These students have been selected from a group of 16,000 semifinalists, making them eligible for one of three scholarships awarded by the National Merit Scholarship Corporation.

The Rocks Vitae student club attended the National March For Life in Washington, DC from January 17-19 to advocate against abortion. One student stated that the eye-opening event showed him how powerful collective action can be, inspiring him to use his voice to make a difference.

Ceramic Art students created their own clay sculptures after visiting the trophy hallway in Catholic Central High School for inspiration. Each student worked with a little over a pound of clay to create their own masterpiece.
Detroit Catholic Central High School has approved a minimal tuition increase of $275 (only 1.75%) for the 2024-2025 school year, bringing the total to $15,975 and marking the lowest price increase in seven years.

On Saturday, December 9, 2023, Catholic Central High School Quiz Bowl hosted the 12th Annual Detroit Catholic Central Middle School Kickoff Tournament, featuring 26 teams from 11 different schools and approximately 130 5th through 8th graders. Teams were quizzed on 640 questions.

Once they complete the program, students will be welcomed into the Catholic Church during an all-school Mass in the spring.

The Shambots made the cut of a select invite list out of over 100 team applications. Part of the team will travel to Lafayette, IN July 6-8 to compete.
Varsity Academic Team competed against 304 schools in Atlanta, GA at the NAQT High School National Championship Tournament May 26 and May 27. The Varsity A team finished the preliminary games with a 7-3 record and qualified for the double-elimination playoffs. After losing in the opening round in the playoffs, the team rallied to win five consecutive games, including a win over #6 ranked Kinkaid (TX) to take 8th in the country. The team consisted of senior captain Will Carstens, who was named one of the tournament all-stars, and sophomores Nick Murray, Jacob Barta, and Ben Yancey.

The scrutinies, rites with roots dating back to the early Church, mark a final step in the students' preparation to be received into the Catholic Church on April 26 at an all school Mass celebrated by Bishop Hanchon of the Archdiocese of Detroit.
Detroit Catholic Central High School welcomed Kathy Tosoian, MA, LPC, Director of Educational Services and Youth Development with Dale Carnegie Courses offered by Will Enterprises, Inc., to campus on Friday, March 31. Detroit Catholic Central Hockey defeated Brighton 3-0 in the 2023 Michigan High School Athletic Association D1 State Championship Saturday night at USA Hockey Arena before 4,090 fans, marking four consecutive state championship wins for Shamrock Hockey. The program made MHSAA history, being the first team in the 49-year history of the MHSAA tournament to shutout their opponent throughout. The win marks Catholic Central's 95th MHSAA state championship win in school history.

Catholic Central Senior David Creen's Eagle Scout project was a true testament to his commitment to the Boy Scouts of America (BSA). An Eagle Scout is the highest achievement or rank attainable in the Scouts BSA program. To qualify, David worked tirelessly for weeks through the pandemic, gathering supplies and organizing volunteers, in order to create a beautiful patio of pavers surrounding the flagpole at his former school, Spiritus Sanctus Academy in Ann Arbor. Through hard work and dedication, David successfully completed his Eagle Scout project in 2020, but says it was a long time coming to be able to fully complete his vision.
