Students Learn Real-World Skills in Car Maintenance 101

On Friday, May 16, 2025, Catholic Central students took part in a hands-on Car Maintenance 101 session, led by Director of Facilities and Transportation Mr. Kevin Kotzian, as part of the school’s DRIVE Development Day programming.

Held outdoors on campus, the workshop gave students an opportunity to learn basic car care and safety tasks that are useful for any driver. Mr. Kotzian provided instruction and demonstrations on several key areas of vehicle maintenance:

  1. How to check and fill oil levels
  2. How to check and refill windshield washer fluid
  3. How to check and inflate tires to proper pressure
  4. How to safely change a flat tire
  5. How to replace windshield wiper blades
  6. How to safely jump start a vehicle

Students were able to observe each process up close, ask questions, and in some cases, try the steps themselves. The goal of the session was to help students become more familiar with their vehicles and gain the confidence to handle basic maintenance tasks.

The Car Maintenance 101 workshop is part of Catholic Central’s DRIVE Development Day series, which offers students opportunities to grow in life skills beyond the classroom.
