Students Learn Medical Suturing and Leadership Skills During DRIVE Development Day

On Friday, May 1, 2026, Catholic Central hosted two DRIVE Development Day sessions, giving students opportunities to explore both medical skills and leadership development.

Approximately 14 students took part in a Medical Suturing workshop led by Dr. Nicholas Dyc, Medical Director of IEP Urgent Care, held in one of our STEM labs. Students learned basic suturing techniques and practiced on pig’s feet in a hands-on setting. The session gave students a practical look at how stitches are used in emergency and surgical care and offered a chance to try the skill for themselves.

Also that morning, 54 students participated in a Dale Carnegie leadership workshop in the Learning Commons. The session focused on building communication and leadership skills through interactive activities and group exercises designed to help students grow in confidence and teamwork.

Both programs are part of Catholic Central’s DRIVE initiative, which provides students with real-world learning experiences beyond the classroom.
