Catholic Central’s Spanish Honor Society (SHS) successfully organized a donation drive for the victims of the flooding in Southwest Detroit.
Spanish classes collected cleaning supplies, toiletries, and emergency items and delivered them to the Detroit Hispanic Development Coalition and Urban Neighborhood Initiatives on Friday, February 28, 2025.
“Southwest Detroit residents recently suffered destructive flooding due to a water main break and freezing temperatures. Our students are familiar with this community as we do a cultural field trip each year there and they wanted to show their support. SHS organized the drive with all members contributing, and it was brought to all Spanish classes, who also provided donations as well,” stated Spanish Teacher, Mrs. Jennifer Manriquez.
The Spanish Honor Society focuses on language and culture. Additionally, members participate in several service projects each year, such as donating school supplies to a school in Nicaragua, sending bilingual Valentine's and Christmas cards to local senior citizens, and doing a clothing drive for a boys' home.
