Shamrocks Celebrate State Championship Bound Football Team and Host 2025 Esports Assembly Match

Detroit Catholic Central High School brought the energy on Monday, November 25, 2025, with a full-school celebration showcasing our championship football team and nationally watched esports match.

The afternoon kicked off with a pep rally honoring our Varsity Football Team as they prepare for the MHSAA Division 1 State Championship at Ford Field on Sunday, November 30 at 7 PM.

During the football pep rally, Athletic Director Aaron Babicz ‘93 hyped up the crowd, telling them that, “At Detroit Catholic School, you don’t get what you wish for, you get what you fight for.”

Immediately following the football sendoff, the focus shifted to one of CC’s most unique and anticipated annual traditions, the 2025 Esports Assembly Match, held from 1:48 PM to 2:45 PM in front of the entire student body and streamed globally on YouTube.com/@dccshamrocks.

This year’s showdown featured a high-intensity, best-of-five battle between the #1-ranked Catholic Central Shamrocks and the #6 Byron Center Bulldogs. Played live on stage with the entire school watching, the Assembly Match once again proved to be one of the year’s most exciting assemblies.

Congratulations to our Shamrocks, who swept the competition, winning all five games.

“Our teams also qualified for the fall state championships at MSU after the assembly match. Varsity Rocket league, JV Rocket League, Varsity Blue Fortnite, Varsity White Fortnite, and Super Smash Bros Ultimate qualified for the Top 8 State Championship at Michigan State University,” shared Head Esports Coach Stephen Juncaj ‘18.

This year’s Assembly Match once again supported Gamers Outreach, a nonprofit providing gaming carts and play experiences to children in hospitals across the country. Thanks to the generosity of our community, we raised $3,600, and every dollar from today’s event goes directly toward supporting their mission.

Best of luck to our Esports players as they compete during the remainder of the season!
