Shamrock Runners Raise Record-Breaking $12,923 For Make-A-Wish Foundation

Runners who participated in Detroit Catholic Central’s 26th Annual Shamrock Shuffle raised over $12,923.13 for the Make-A-Wish Foundation of Michigan. This year’s donations topped last year’s record-breaking amount of $11,902, proving the Shamrock spirit continues to thrive year after year.

The charitable event would not be possible without the help of DECA, Catholic Central’s student business club. The event was held on October 8th, 2023 during Boys’ Bowl Homecoming Weekend and included a 1.5 mile walk/run around the high school campus.  Since the tradition began in 1997, students and faculty have raised over $211,311.13 for charity. The Make-A-Wish Foundation grants wishes for kids with critical illnesses.

“As the leaders of Catholic Central's DECA chapter, we believe the Shamrock Shuffle holds a special place in our hearts and within our school community. This event not only adds a vibrant and energetic spirit to Boy's Bowl Week, but it also embodies the core values of DECA - leadership, entrepreneurship, and community engagement. The Make-A-Wish Foundation is a truly worthy cause, and we are proud to work on their behalf to make a meaningful and substantial contribution to their important efforts,” stated DECA Co-Moderators, Amanda Loffler and Michael Mach.

This year’s top three runner-up classes included Mr. Wilson’s Sophomore homeroom with $140, Mr. Mulrooney’s Senior homeroom with $465, and Mrs. Raskey’s Junior homeroom with $1,013. The overall winner was Mr. Griffin’s Freshman homeroom with $3,390. All homerooms enjoyed a pizza party to celebrate their hard work.

“Shamrock DECA has supported the Shamrock Shuffle for many years now, and this year marks the 26th annual Shamrock Shuffle. This year is special as the school has now raised over $200,000 over the history of the Shamrock Shuffle. Shamrock DECA is always excited to help fundraise for the kids of Make-A-Wish, as the organization provides a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity for children with critical illnesses. We are always looking to make a positive difference in our community, and the Shamrock Shuffle has consistently been one of our favorite events throughout the years,” contributed Jordan Diegel '24, VP of Philanthropy for DECA.
