Shamrock ID Club Guest Speaker Discusses Placing God First

Shamrock I.D. guest speaker Tom Mach met with students to discuss the importance of placing God first.

Coach Mach was Head Coach of Catholic Central’s football program from 1976 to 2017. During his years as a coach, Mach would instill a culture of commitment, faith, and hard work within his football team, setting the foundation for CC football’s long-standing traditions.

His notorious catch phrase is "the magic is in believing," a mantra that has inspired countless students to embrace the power of their belief in God.

“This year, Shamrock I.D. is focusing on the life of Blessed Solanus Casey and we are discussing how holiness is attainable, but in order to grow in holiness, we must heal our image of God and become more disciplined. Coach Mach gave a wonderful talk on the importance of ‘placing God first’ in our lives and developing a relationship with Jesus Christ,” stated Theology teacher Paul Stuligross.

Shamrock I.D. “Intentional Disciples” is a student club that meets with mentors every other week in small groups. The club also attends Mass before school every other Tuesday.

The group’s mission is to teach students how to live out their Christian identity as a man of Catholic Central. Mentors help students answer questions such as “Who am I” and “Who am I to you, Lord?”

During his talk, Coach Mach encouraged students to pray every day and develop a good spiritual life by making God the center of your life. "Learn that character and a high priority of values will assist you in making tough decisions,” stated Coach Mach. Lastly, he impressed on the young men that faith is the most important thing you can work on in life and that being a Saint is our main goal.

“The focus of this talk to the boys was that they need to remain disciplined and stoke that desire to get into Heaven - and that this requires less of the ‘world’ and the ‘media’ and more prayer,” Mr. Stuligross continued.
