Shambots Take First at Kettering Kickoff, Earn Cornerstone Award

Catholic Central’s Shambots Robotics Team 5907 had an impressive showing at the Kettering Kickoff on Sunday, September 13, 2026, finishing the event with a 12-1-0 record and taking first place alongside alliance partners #33 Killer Bees and #1322 GRAYT Leviathons.

After a slow start to the event, the Shambots climbed the rankings and remained near the top throughout the day before earning a spot in the winning alliance.

The team’s weekend was highlighted by more than its performance on the field. The Shambots also received the Bob Nichols Cornerstone Award, which recognizes a team that has demonstrated an extraordinary commitment to building the FIRST community, exemplified Gracious Professionalism, and served as a role model for other teams.

The Shambots were nominated for the award by #910 Foley Freeze in recognition of the team’s efforts to share its resources and expertise with the FIRST community through events such as Open Shop and Test & Tune.

The team will continue its offseason work with meetings on Wednesdays from 4–7 p.m. at the Robotics Center. Students will be working on outreach initiatives, special projects, and shop organization as they prepare for a busy schedule of upcoming events.

Among the Shambots’ upcoming events are Cars & Coffee on Oct. 3, STEM Night on Oct. 8, the Goonettes Invitational on Oct. 10–11, and Open House on Nov. 8. The team will also host its annual outreach and community-building activities throughout the offseason.

The Shambots will officially begin preparations for the 2027 season at the FIRST Robotics Competition Kickoff on Jan. 9.

Congratulations to Team 5907 on a successful weekend and on being recognized for its continued commitment to the FIRST community!
