Shambots Finish 2nd at FIRST World Championship; Shambytes Compete Strong in Houston

Catholic Central’s robotics teams wrapped up an exciting week at the FIRST World Robotics Championship at the George R. Brown Convention Center in Houston, Texas, competing against some of the best teams in the world.

The Shambots had an outstanding run on the Curie Field. After finishing qualifications ranked first, they earned the role of captain of Alliance 1 heading into playoffs. The team advanced through each round of eliminations and made it all the way to the double-elimination final, where they finished as runner-up on the Curie Field, an impressive result on the world stage.

On the Galileo Field, the Shambytes also represented Catholic Central well. Selected in the second round of alliance picks, they joined Alliance 5 and competed in two elimination matches during championship play. While their run ended in the playoffs, the team gained valuable experience competing at Worlds and took away plenty of learning moments from the week.

“I feel so incredibly blessed to be able to provide any support or assistance I can to our amazing Roboticists! With the guidance of coaches and mentors, and the time invested in our robots, we hope to return to Worlds next year and maybe compete in the finals on Einstein,” shared Amy Ely, Director of STEM at Catholic Central.

Congratulations to both teams!
