Ryan Dye ‘26 Announced as the 2026 Whelan Award Winner

Catholic Central is proud to announce that Ryan Dye '26 has been named the 2026 Whelan Award winner. The announcement was made during the Spring Sports Assembly on Thursday, April 16, 2026.

Dye is a multi-time, multi-sport varsity letter winner, two-sport captain, and two-time All-State selection who has been a member of multiple state championship teams in both hockey and lacrosse. A MHSAA Scholar Athlete finalist and CHSL Scholar Athlete nominee for both hockey and lacrosse, he has also been an active member of the school’s current OCIA group, all while maintaining an impressive 4.05 GPA. In the fall, he will attend Mercer University, where he plans to study finance.

Established in 1950, the Whelan Award is one of the most prestigious honors at Catholic Central. Named in memory of the school's fourth principal, Father James Whelan, the award is presented annually to a senior who best embodies excellence in academics and athletics while demonstrating strong character, leadership, and a commitment to living as a Christian gentleman. The recipient is selected by fellow varsity letter winners, making it a meaningful recognition from peers.

Also during the assembly, head coaches and senior leaders from our spring sports teams spoke about their season, announced this year's rosters, and encouraged the community to come out and support their teams. The full spring sports schedule can be found at dccshamrocks.net.

Congratulations to Ryan on the incredible achievement of being named this year's Whelan Award winner, and best of luck to our spring sports teams as they continue their season.
