OCIT Students Traveled to Blessed Sacrament Cathedral for the Rite of Election

On Sunday, March 9, 2025, 20 OCIT students traveled to Blessed Sacrament Cathedral in Detroit for the Rite of Election.

Accompanied by their families and godparents or sponsors, the students participated in the event led by Bishop Cepeda. The Rite of Election brought together catechumens and candidates from every parish in the Archdiocese, all preparing to receive their sacraments.

“It was an exciting experience for our students to see that so many other people around them have made the same choice and are responding to the same invitation from God in their hearts and minds. This marks their entrance into the last stage in their preparation before receiving their sacraments. The Mass of Initiation will be celebrated on Wednesday, April 30, 2025, here at Catholic Central,” stated Theology Teacher, Colin Whitehead ‘13.

Theology Teacher Rebecca Joseph shared, “The idea of CC being family was very evident, especially in the fact that four of the participants asked teachers to be their sponsors. We are not only instructors in the classroom, but we are Godparents and sponsors to the students who are on a life journey. Being able to share Christ in and out of the classroom makes us brothers and sisters and spiritual mothers and fathers to our students as well. It is a beautiful bond and a great privilege!”
