Nick Saban Visits Detroit Catholic Central High School, Speaks To Students

On Thursday, April 11, 2024, Catholic Central students and guests were treated to a very unique experience as one of the most storied coaches in college history, Nick Saban, made a rare appearance at a high school to speak.

During his visit to Catholic Central, Saban toured the George and Mary Turek Hall of Science and other campus developments before co-hosting an all-school assembly with Athletic Director, Aaron Babicz ‘93, and Head Football Coach, Justin Cessante ‘99.

During his presentation, Coach Saban spoke to students about being humble, the importance of discipline, and the challenge of avoiding complacency when experiencing success.

While Catholic Central hosts guest speakers for their students on a somewhat regular basis, it is unusual for the school to have such a high-profile guest.

However, as a result of the school’s record-setting DRIVE fundraiser, which helps offset the cost of tuition for more than a third of the school population receiving need-based tuition assistance, the administration was open to unique rewards for the students.

Coach Saban’s special guest appearance was possible thanks to personal connections and alumni relationships. The private assembly was limited to current students, faculty, and staff.
