Model UN Delegates Shine at Chicago Conference

Catholic Central’s Model United Nations team had a successful and engaging weekend at the Model UN Chicago conference, where students demonstrated strong leadership, diplomacy, and global awareness throughout the multi-day event.

Representing the nation of Fiji, CC delegates Gabriel Mio ‘26, Tiernan Bracken ‘26, Marcus O’Hara ‘27, Nate Denk ‘27, Josh Tamas ‘27, Xavier Howell ‘28, Charlie Votruba ‘28, and Jeremiah Cameron '28 participated across a wide range of committees, including Social, Humanitarian & Cultural Affairs; Crime Prevention & Criminal Justice; Trade & Development; the Alliance of Small Island States; the Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific; and the World Bank.

Prior to arriving in Chicago, each delegate submitted a detailed position paper addressing their committee’s assigned issues. Topics tackled by the CC delegation included language rights, protective policing, climate displacement of sinking nations, food security, and infrastructure reconstruction, complex global challenges that required thoughtful research and strategic planning.

Over the course of the conference, students presented and debated Fiji’s positions, formed alliances and blocs with other nations, negotiated working papers, and collaborated to draft resolutions.

In true Model UN fashion, the weekend also included Thursday night pizza after committee sessions. One memorable highlight came when Tiernan Bracken earned the chance to “pie his chair” after a committee challenge was successfully met, much to the enjoyment of fellow delegates.

The conference concluded with closing ceremonies on Sunday, and the team returned home safely, just in time for Super Bowl kickoff.

Congratulations to all of our Model UN delegates on a job well done and for representing Catholic Central with professionalism, enthusiasm, and integrity on the national stage.
