Martial Arts Club Practices Iaido and Chanbara

On Tuesday, November 11, 2025, members of Catholic Central’s Martial Arts Club gathered in the band room for a session focused on traditional Japanese martial arts.

The practice began with students training using wooden swords in a discipline known as iaido, which emphasizes precise movements and mindfulness.

Later, the group transitioned to sparring with padded foam weapons and helmets, a practice called sports chanbara, or simply chanbara, which allows participants to safely apply their skills in a fast-paced, competitive setting.

Club Moderator Shawn Hodgins guided the students through the exercises, helping them refine both their technique and appreciation for the discipline and respect inherent in martial arts.
