Jr. Shamrocks Participate in Astronomy Night at Catholic Central

On Friday, Friday, January 16, 2025, Jr. Shamrocks participated in an Astronomy Night at Catholic Central, taking part in a series of structured learning activities focused on space and astronomy.

During the evening, student groups rotated through the ObservaDome, where they learned about its purpose, how it functions, and how telescopes are used to observe objects in the night sky. As groups moved through the dome, Mrs. Amy Ely, Director of STEM, provided an overview of space exploration, including current research and future plans for missions to Mars.

Students also spent time in the Immersion Theater, where Mr. Benjamin Ahronheim, Mathematics Teacher, led an instructional presentation on how astronomers capture and analyze images from telescopes. He explained the different types of star clusters and galaxies that have been identified and how astronomers study these objects using advanced imaging techniques.

The event offered Jr. Shamrocks an opportunity to learn more about astronomy while experiencing hands-on, science-based instruction at Catholic Central.
