HOSA Students Medal at State Conference, Qualify for Nationals

Catholic Central’s HOSA–Future Health Professionals chapter competed at the 2025 Michigan HOSA State Leadership Conference held April 17–18 in Traverse City, with several students earning recognition for their top performances.

Among the highlights, Brendan McSweeney '26 and Jeremiah Furtado '26 earned a 3rd place medal in Forensic Science, earning their tickets to the HOSA International Leadership Conference this summer in Nashville, Tennessee. However, both students will be in Italy for the school trip and will not be able to attend Nationals.

Their performance in the competitive, science-based event placed them among the top teams in the state and now positions them on a national stage.

Catholic Central’s HOSA chapter, led by President Peter Sanin '25, traveled north for the two-day competition, joining thousands of students from across the state.

The State Leadership Conference included competitive events, educational workshops, and networking opportunities for future healthcare professionals.

In addition to McSweeney and Furtado’s medal finish, Mike Shih '26 earned distinction by placing in the top 8 statewide for Dental Terminology, an individual event that tests knowledge of dental vocabulary, anatomy, and procedures.

The chapter is now focused on preparing McSweeney and Furtado for Nationals, where they’ll compete against top students nationwide.

The HOSA International Leadership Conference will be held June 25–28 in Nashville.
