Eight Catholic Central students who took the FAA Remote Pilot course last school year have earned their FAA Remote Pilot Certificates.

The students passed the FAA Unmanned Aircraft General Knowledge Test (UAG) at an FAA testing center over the summer. After passing the test, they submitted their scores through the Federal IACRA website to apply for their FAA Remote Pilot Certificates.

The certificates allow the students to legally fly small unmanned aircraft systems (sUAS), commonly known as drones, for commercial purposes. Under FAA regulations, “small” refers to unmanned aircraft weighing less than 55 pounds. That means the drones these students are now certified to fly can be considerably larger than what many people might typically think of as a drone.
