DECA Students Earn Grand Awards at International Career Competition in Atlanta

After a rigorous four-day competition at the International Career Competition in Atlanta April 23 -26, Catholic Central teams walked away with two major awards. As a chapter, Catholic Central finished second in the nation for the DECA MDA National Fundraising Challenge, competing against approximately 3,200 high schools. Additionally, the three-man sophomore team, J-Cubed, finished third in the Virtual Business Entrepreneurship event.

J-Cubed, which included Jordan Diegel ‘24, Joseph Sievert ‘24 and Joseph Scarsella ‘24, began preparing for the Virtual Business - Entrepreneurship event last fall. Over 30,000 teams entered the Virtual Business - Entrepreneurship event this year. The first qualifying competition took place in October 2021, with the second round taking place in January 2022. The students practiced for months after school and on weekends to ensure their presentation was as close to perfect as possible,  with the goal to compete at the international conference.

“This has been our most successful year as a DECA chapter yet,” said Amanda Loffler, Catholic Central’s DECA chapter advisor. “All of the students that competed have given countless hours devoted to their events in preparation and practice. I am incredibly proud of their hard work and dedication, and I am very excited to see what the future holds for these students and our chapter.”

The 15 students had the opportunity to attend leadership seminars and workshops, while also competing as individuals or in teams in the following events:

  • Virtual Business - Entrepreneurship
  • Financial Consulting
  • Automotive Services Marketing
  • Sports and Entertainment Marketing Operations
  • Stock Market Game
