As the school year wraps up, students in Catholic Central’s Debate & Forensics class concluded their final unit with Duo Interpretation performances in the Immersion Theater this week.
Led by Social Studies Instructor and Debate & Forensics Coach Mr. Russ Facione, the class was divided into two main sections over the course of the term.
The first half focused on Lincoln-Douglas Debate, a one-on-one format that encourages students to research, construct arguments, and think on their feet. The second half shifted to interpretation events, where students develop their storytelling and performance skills.
Earlier this semester, students practiced Storytelling, using children’s literature to focus on vocal delivery and character development. The final project, Duo Interpretation, builds on those skills.
In these performances, students worked in pairs (or in one case, a group of three) to present a scene. The class performed scenes from a variety of well-known stories, including Diary of a Wimpy Kid, SpongeBob SquarePants, Home Alone, and Despicable Me.
Each group brought their own approach to the performance, working to portray multiple characters and keep their delivery coordinated with their partner.
