Data Science Students Present Capstones to HAP Executives

On Monday, December 8, 2025, students in Amanda Loffler’s Data Science class presented their capstone projects to executives from Health Alliance Plan (HAP) in the Immersion Theater.

“Supporting Computer Science students at Detroit Catholic Central was a fantastic experience for Health Alliance Plan (HAP). It was our pleasure to educate and inform the students about health insurance and the consumer experience. We provided them with a real-world opportunity to apply their learnings and achieve results that can inform health plan operations to better serve the members in the state of Michigan,” stated HAP Executive Heather Spencer.

HAP is a Michigan-based nonprofit health insurance provider that offers coverage plans and health services across the state. Their team visited Catholic Central to hear how students used data to address real-world challenges connected to health care and community well-being.

Students presented a range of projects, demonstrating skills in data analysis, visualization, and problem-solving. The HAP representatives asked questions, offered feedback, and discussed how data science plays a role in decision-making within the healthcare industry.
