Chris Nemes ‘09 Speaks To Students About Accounting And Finance

On Wednesday, September 25, 2024, Chris Nemes ‘09 of Nemes Rush Family Wealth Management spoke to students in Mrs. Amanda Loffler’s class about the many applications of accounting and finance knowledge.

“I think it’s very important to illustrate with examples, so I offered three experiences from my career when accounting and finance knowledge was vital to a successful outcome,” stated Nemes.

First, he covered his time at Deloitte serving private equity clients. The focus of this section was private equity fund structuring based on different types of investors (individuals, foreign entities, tax exempt entities, etc.).

Next, he spoke about serving clients as a financial advisor and how his tax background is a key differentiator. He used a sample planning scenario to show how he works with clients to accelerate or decelerate their income based on their financial and estate planning goals.

Lastly, he shared an anecdote about the founding of Nemes Rush and how it’s important to be able to craft pro forma financial statements from scratch.

“In this case, we had to project revenue, expenses, hiring, and growth. We did this without ever having owned or operated a firm. This lengthy process laid a foundation and helped us make a big decision - to leave the corporate world behind and become business owners,” Nemes stated.

Of his time spent at Catholic Central, Nemes stated, “I am incredibly lucky to have been able to attend Detroit Catholic Central. The school taught me toughness, discipline, and resolve. As a husband, father, and business owner, I use lessons I learned at Detroit Catholic Central every single day. When I come back to speak to the students each semester, I hope that I can give back some of what I learned during my time there.”

“I want to thank Mrs. Loffler for the opportunity to come back and speak with the Detroit Catholic Central Accounting students. I’m excited to see what these young men can do when they enter the workforce in a few years. As a proud alumnus who has seen their drive and passion in the classroom, I’m sure they’ll find great success,” Nemes concluded.

In addition to regular classroom appearances, Nemes has been a guest on the second episode of last year’s DCC Insider Podcast.
