CC Students Learn Telescope Operation and Astrophotography

On Monday, November 10, 2025, astronomy students in Mr. Steve Minier's class assembled telescopes as part of an on-going project. As part of Catholic Central's astronomy curriculum, students are engaging in a hands-on learning experience focused on the operation and use of telescopes for nighttime observations.

This project reinforces key concepts from their coursework, including celestial motion, coordinate systems, and the identification of astronomical objects. Students are learning to align and control telescopes, locate celestial targets, and utilize the ASIAIR imaging system to capture high-quality photographs of stars, planets, and deep-sky objects through astrophotography.

Through this integration of observational practice and digital imaging, students gain a deeper understanding of the methods astronomers use to explore the universe and collect scientific data.
