On Thursday, October 16, 2024, Catholic Central proudly presented a check for $18,067 to the Make-A-Wish Foundation, surpassing last year's record of $12,923.
"The boys really stepped up this year. We beat last year's total by more than $5,000. They continue to display goodness every day as they become men of Mary Alma Mater," stated Mr. Steven Lemieux, Science Teacher and Shamrock Shuffle Organizer.
The funds were raised during Catholic Central’s 27th annual charity run, which took place during Boys’ Bowl weekend. The 1.5-mile fun run kicked off the festivities on Friday, September 27, leading up to the Boys’ Bowl assembly.
Since the tradition began in 1997, the Shamrocks have raised an impressive total of $229,378.87 for the Make-A-Wish Foundation, an organization dedicated to granting wishes for critically ill children.
Catholic Central’s student business club, DECA, plays a critical role in assisting with fundraising efforts for the charity run. The club fundraises for several events during the year, and the Shamrock Shuffle’s Make-A-Wish Foundation is consistently one of the club’s favorite events.
The check was presented by DECA Co-Moderators Mrs. Amanda Loffler and Mr. Mike Mach ’03, along with DECA’s Vice Presidents of Philanthropy, Charlie Salvatore ’25 and Antonio Sushy ’25.
They were joined by Principal Fr. Patrick Fulton, CSB, President Ed Turek ’85, Mr. Steven Lemieux, and Business Teacher Ms. Dawn Jenkins.
