CC Kicks Off 2025 Career Conference Series With Robotics, Dentistry, and Medicine

Catholic Central kicked off its Career Conference series this week, beginning on Tuesday, January 28, 2025, when an alumnus spoke to interested students about robotics, sharing key knowledge about his career path and bringing along a robot for demonstration.

Then, on Wednesday, January 29, 2025, Dr. Grant Prior ‘14, DDS, talked to students about pursuing a career in dentistry. He encouraged students to take advantage of the school’s new George and Mary Turek Hall of Science, which he described as a resource he wished had been available when he was in high school. Courses in AP Biology, AP Chemistry, Human Anatomy, Physics, Ceramics, and even drawing could provide valuable foundations for dental studies. Public speaking, he added, is another essential skill for aspiring dentists.

Shadowing a dentist is one of the best ways to gain insight into the profession, and Dr. Prior encouraged students to reach out to local dentists or utilize the Catholic Central network for opportunities. He also recommended researching dental programs at local colleges to explore further educational options.

Finally, on Thursday, January 30, 2025, students heard from Dr. Mitchell Rozman ‘11 about entering the medical field. He outlined his demanding path through medical school, including the first two years of preclinical work, followed by a two-year clerkship with hospital rotations. After completing his three-year internal medicine residency, he pursued a cardiology fellowship. He highlighted factors to consider when choosing cardiology, including personal passion, lifestyle, training length, and job market demand.

Dr. Rozman also discussed his typical workdays, which vary between clinic, procedure, and imaging days, and shared insights on inpatient vs. outpatient care. He also discussed the different tools and technologies he uses, like echocardiograms and the cardiac cath lab.

For students interested in pursuing medicine, Dr. Rozman emphasized the need for a narrative that includes service, research, and clinical experience. He encouraged students to focus on academics, gain healthcare exposure, develop leadership skills, and engage in community service. Reflecting on his time at CC, Dr. Rozman noted the strong foundation and connections he built there, crediting them for many of the opportunities in his career.
