CC Hosts Brother's Day and GDK Field Day

On Friday, August 22, 2025, Catholic Central hosted two important events: Brother’s Day and Goodness, Discipline, and Knowledge (GDK) Field Day.

We welcomed 78 younger brothers of current Shamrocks to campus, including 30 seventh graders and 48 eighth graders, for a full-day visit. Brothers Day replaces the traditional 8th Grade Shadow Day and is designed specifically for younger brothers of current students.

The day included a morning meet and greet, group and brother photos, and then the boys headed off to class for a day in the life of a Shamrock. Brother’s Day gave these students a simple but meaningful look at daily life at Catholic Central.

That same day, the CC community observed Goodness, Discipline, and Knowledge (GDK) Field Day, a tradition that emphasizes the values at the heart of our mission.

Students followed a shortened class schedule before gathering for a school-wide assembly in the gymnasium and participating in Field Day activities at the stadium.

“Great families talk about what’s important. Great families also waste time together. Not every time you have fun has to have a lesson behind it or an icebreaker with a goal. Sometimes we just waste time together. Days like today are all about that,” stated Theology Teacher and GDK Moderator, Nick George.

The GDK Program meets biweekly throughout the school year and focuses on different themes for each grade level:

  • Freshmen: Character
  • Sophomores: Service
  • Juniors: Influence
  • Seniors: Leadership

Thank you to our Catholic Central community for making Friday’s GDK and Brother’s Day a great success!
