CC Alumni Hosts Construction Field Trip For Current Students

On Friday, June 14, 2024, Mike Smiley ‘96, Group Vice President of Preconstruction for Walbridge, took a group of current students out to lunch at Zingerman’s Roadhouse in Ann Arbor to teach them about career opportunities in the construction industry.

During lunch, a group of Catholic Central alumni, all currently working in the construction field, shared their career paths and gave students advice. These alumni included John Linenberg ’89 – Design, Eric Ozog ’98 – Field Operations, and Paul Rzepecki ’83 – Owner/Trade Contractor.

After lunch, the group of CC students and alumni toured the Walbridge’s University of Michigan’s Leinweber project with Lead Superintendent, Mike Haller Jr. ‘98.

The project’s goal is to build the Leinweber Computer Science and Information Building, which will be the new home for the School of Information at the University of Michigan. It will provide space for the Computer Science and Engineering division of Michigan Engineering. The project is expected to be completed in the middle of 2025.

“What a great day! As we walked the project, it reminded me of what is so special about CC.  Across multiple generations, there is a common bond that linked us all to help one another even many years after graduation,” stated Smiley.
