Catholic Central Supports KP Community Development’s Back-to-School Block Party

On Saturday, August 17, KP Community Development hosted its annual Back-to-School Block Party at 29746 Southfield Road in Southfield. The event welcomed community leaders, local businesses, and families for an afternoon of free food, music, haircuts, hairstyles, nail polish, educational resources, health information, and a large-scale backpack and school supply giveaway.

Representing Catholic Central, alumnus and Director of Community Outreach Christopher Okoye '14 participated as a featured guest. In partnership with the Admissions Department, Christopher helped donate Catholic Central backpacks, pencils, and notebooks to students preparing for the new school year.

"Supporting our youth with the basics they need reminds them that they are loved, valued, and capable of achieving all that God has called them to do," stated Okoye.

Other guests included Fire Chief James Harris of Detroit and Southfield Police Chief Elvin Barren, who joined community members in supporting the event.

Catholic Central’s involvement reflects our commitment to service and community engagement. By partnering with organizations like KP Community Development, civic leaders, and local businesses, we continue to strengthen relationships across metro Detroit and support students and families as they begin the school year.
