Catholic Central Installs Time Capsule During Boys’ Bowl Spirit Week

On Wednesday, October 1, 2025, during Boys’ Bowl Spirit Week, Catholic Central placed items in a time capsule near the fireplace in the George and Mary Turek Hall of Science that will be opened during the 125th anniversary of the school, in approximately 27 years.

The entire Catholic Central administration was present for the event. Senior class officers from the Class of 2026 placed the items into the capsule in front of the senior class body, along with supporters of the Catholic Central community. The items placed in the time capsule were selected the previous year by the Class of 2025.

President Ed Turek ‘85 opened the ceremony by addressing the audience and seniors:

“We waited a full school year before installing our time capsule. The seniors have moved on, but you, the class of 2026, are here because you build on and hopefully better the legacy of those who have gone before you, as is the expectation of every graduating class. What the class of 2025 has given you, you now have a responsibility to make CC a better place than last year for the next generation of Shamrocks. When this time capsule is opened, you will be in your 40’s and hopefully have sons attending CC.”

Following the address, Mike Carrier ‘06, Director of Student Activities, read aloud the contents of the capsule as the class officers placed them inside:

“Our objective was to paint a picture of who we are as a school community and as a society. A time capsule is more than just a box of old things. It’s a message to the future. A window into who we were, what we value, and what we hope for. The items we place inside today will tell a story to those who open it years from now. These items reflect the who, what, and why of our school at this present time.”

Items included in the time capsule:

  • Memorabilia from the George and Mary Turek Hall of Science Dedication
  • A 25th and 75th anniversary book from Catholic Central
  • A GDK poster and the GDK prayer recited weekly
  • A 2024 Christmas card featuring artwork by Kyle Egan ‘25 and the 2024 Christmas ornament
  • An iPhone, AirPods, and Kindle, recognizing current technology
  • OCIA (formly OCIT) memorabilia
  • A car key fob with a CC lanyard
  • A Born in Detroit sticker
  • A sticker picture with Frank’s face
  • Fr. Dennis Kauffman, CSB’s funeral prayer card, marking the one-year anniversary of his passing
  • Honorary lapel pin and golf ball marker representing the Athletic Hall of Fame
  • A Kairos cross
  • CDs used to play morning music in recent years
  • A 90th anniversary sticker
  • A DVD of the 90-90 celebration event
  • Prayer card with Fr. Richard Elmer, CSB '46, former President, Principal, and Athletic Director
  • Ceramic artwork by Benjamin Fogarsi ‘25
  • Charcoal drawing by Tristan Najjar ‘25
  • And more items

The ceremony concluded with Principal Fr. Patrick Fulton, CSB blessing the capsule:

“The world is being made a better place by having more Shamrocks in it. We are thankful for our alumni and friends of the school who have generously contributed to the mission of the school.”

The time capsule now rests as a message to future Shamrocks, offering a snapshot of Catholic Central in 2025, with hopes that when it is opened three decades from now, it will inspire future generations to carry forward the school’s mission.
