Catholic Central Hosts 58th Annual Wrestling Assembly Match

On Wednesday, December 3, 2025, Catholic Central held its 58th Annual Mike Rodriguez Wrestling Assembly Match in front of the entire school community. The Shamrocks hosted Clarkston in one of the school’s most exciting athletic events, a rematch of last year’s MHSAA Division 1 semifinal. In attendance were legendary coaches Mike Rodriguez and Lou Yeager, who returned to campus to watch the dual and support the storied tradition they helped build.

The assembly began at 2 p.m. and marked the official start of the 2025–2026 wrestling season. In a matchup between No. 1 Catholic Central and No. 5 Clarkston, the Shamrocks earned a 56–14 win.

Catholic Central started the dual with strong momentum. Gabe Ryzyi ‘29 started the dual off at 113lbs with a fall in the third period, and Nygel Sturdivant ‘29 added a tech fall at 120lbs. Jamison Gregory ‘27 secured another tech fall at 126lbs, and Ryan Totten ‘27 earned a 9–6 decision at 132lbs.

At 138, Wyatt Lees ‘26 recorded a first-period fall, giving the Shamrocks a 25–0 lead. Carter (Clarkston) got the major over Meyer Murray ‘28 at 144, while Mack Moscovic ‘27 earned a tech fall at 150lbs. Alex Buskirk ‘26 collected a tech fall at 157lbs, extending the lead to 35–3.

Clarkston picked up a tech fall at 165, but Catholic Central responded at 175lbs with Braxten Roche ‘28, who recorded a fall. At 190lbs, Caden Krueger ‘27 earned a first-period tech fall to make it 46–8. Clarkston followed with a fall at 215lbs, and senior Paxton Heitsch ‘26 earned a second-period pin at Heavyweight. At 106 pounds, Gavin Boller ‘29 closed the dual with a 14–5 major decision.

The Shamrocks return to action this weekend as the Varsity Blue Team heads to the Romeo Duals, while the White Team heads to the Fraser Duals.

Final Score: Catholic Central 56, Clarkston 14
