On Monday, March 11, 2025, Shamrock Nation celebrated Catholic Central Hockey’s latest state championship with an all-school assembly.
With this victory, the Shamrocks set a new MHSAA record, becoming the first team ever to win six consecutive state titles.
During the assembly, coaches and players shared reflections on the season, highlighting the team's hard work, unity, and the support from the CC community.
The Shamrocks concluded the 2024-2025 season with an impressive 27-2-0 record, cementing their reputation as one of the top high school hockey programs in the nation. Their performance breakdown is as follows:
- Home Games: 12 wins, 1 loss
- Away Games: 8 wins, 1 loss
- Neutral Site Games: 7 wins, 0 losses
One of the most impressive aspects of their season was their dominance on the road, finishing with an outstanding away record of 8-1.
Catholic Central secured their historic title with a 4-1 victory over Howell High School at USA Hockey Arena in Plymouth. The Shamrocks set the tone early and never looked back:
- First-Period Breakthrough: Matthew Naida ‘26 (#12, Forward) opened the scoring with a top-shelf wrist shot off an assist from Cost Karadimas ‘26 (#28, Forward).
- Defensive Wall: Goaltender Joe Bedells’ ‘25 crucial saves, keeping Howell at bay and preserving CC’s lead.
- Sealing the Win: Ryan Dye‘26 (#23, Defense) put the game out of reach with an empty-net goal in the final minutes, igniting celebrations in the Shamrock stands.
Several players played key roles in the Shamrocks’ record-setting season:
- Justin Bloink ‘25 (#10, Defense): Led the team with 13 goals and 18 assists, totaling 31 points in 25 games. He proved invaluable with five power-play goals and one shorthanded goal.
- Resse Hemme ‘25 (#14, Forward): Matched Bloink’s point total with 13 goals and 18 assists, serving as a consistent playmaker.
- Tyler O'Brien ‘25 (#24, Forward): Contributed 14 goals and 15 assists, stepping up in crucial moments.
- Sam Wolak ‘25 (#11, Defense): Provided 7 goals and 18 assists, helping drive the team’s offensive success.
While the offense was solid, CC’s defense was equally dominant. Over their final four games, the Shamrocks allowed just two goals while scoring 17.
With this sixth straight championship, Catholic Central has not only set a new MHSAA record but also reinforced its status as a powerhouse in high school hockey.
