Catholic Central Caps 2025-26 School Year With 10 State Championships

The 2025-26 school year will go down as one of the most successful in Catholic Central High School history, as the Shamrocks captured 10 state championships across athletics, academics, and student activities.

Football Returns to the Top

The championship run began in the fall with a dominant season from the varsity football team. Catholic Central finished undefeated and defeated Detroit Cass Tech 42-19 at Ford Field to win the 2025 MHSAA Division 1 State Championship.

The victory marked the program’s first state title since 2009 and the 11th in school history, reestablishing the Shamrocks at the pinnacle of Michigan high school football.

Wrestling Continues Historic Run

The wrestling program added yet another chapter to its legacy, capturing its fourth consecutive MHSAA Division 1 Team State Championship with a 43-16 win over Hartland.

It was the program’s 19th overall state championship and the 12th under Head Coach Mitch Hancock ’00. The Shamrocks also crowned five individual state champions at Ford Field, underscoring the depth and dominance of one of Michigan’s premier programs.

Hockey Extends Championship Streak

The hockey team continued its remarkable run with a seventh consecutive MHSAA Division 1 State Championship, defeating Northville 6-0 at USA Hockey Arena.

The title was the 24th in program history and extended one of the most dominant streaks in Michigan high school sports.

Academic Team Dominates Again

Catholic Central’s Academic Team continued its unmatched tradition of excellence, winning its 15th consecutive Michigan Class A State Championship with a victory over Okemos.

The team finished the season with a 128-9 record, further cementing its place as one of the most successful academic programs in the state.

Esports Captures Multiple State Titles

The Esports program continued its rapid rise with multiple MHSEL state championships during the year, highlighted by titles in Rocket League and Fortnite.

The victories reflect the growing success of Catholic Central’s competitive gaming program and its ability to compete at a high level across multiple game formats.

Golf Wins Third Straight Championship

The varsity golf team captured its third consecutive MHSAA Division 1 State Championship, continuing its run as one of the most consistent programs in Michigan high school golf.

Rugby Secures Back-to-Back Titles

The rugby team defended its crown with a second consecutive Division 1 State Championship, defeating Rockford to complete another outstanding season.

Lacrosse Claims Third State Title

The lacrosse team earned the MHSAA Division 1 State Championship with a 14-10 win over Hudsonville, marking the program’s third state title and another milestone in its continued rise.

Fishing Team Makes School History

The fishing team delivered a breakthrough moment, winning the program’s first-ever state championship. The title represents a major milestone for one of Catholic Central’s fastest-growing programs.

Baseball Wins First Title in 27 Years

The baseball team closed the spring season with a statement victory, defeating Rochester Adams 7-0 at Michigan State University’s McLane Stadium to win the MHSAA Division 1 State Championship.

The title was the program’s first since 1999 and the fourth in school history.
