Catholic Central Attends CHSL Centennial Mass

Students and members of Catholic Central’s Athletic Department and Administration attended the CHSL Centennial Mass on Thursday, September 3, 2026, at the historic Holy Redeemer Church in Detroit, with celebrant Archbishop Edward J. Weisenburger.

The Mass brought together students, athletes, coaches, and school leaders from across the Catholic High School League as the League celebrates its 100th anniversary. Founded in 1926, the CHSL has a long tradition of bringing together Catholic schools through athletics while keeping faith and character at the center of the student experience.

Representing Catholic Central were Athletic Director Aaron Babicz 1993, President Ed Turek 1985, Vice President of Mission and Spirituality Father Patrick Fulton, CSB, Assistant Athletic Director David Sofran, Head Basketball Coach Tory Jackson, and several CC students.

As Athletic Director Aaron Babicz 1993 put it, the CHSL is “the finest faith-based educational athletics league in the country.” The Centennial Mass was a meaningful way to celebrate the League’s history and begin its next 100 years.
