Catholic Central Announces New Assistant Dean of Students

Detroit Catholic Central High School welcomes Matt Lewis as the new Assistant Dean of Students.

“We look forward to Lewis joining our team. As our campus grows, we need additional assistance mentoring our Shamrocks,” stated Principal Father Patrick Fulton, CSB.

Lewis has an extensive background in teaching at various Catholic schools in the area. Most recently, he served as the Head Football Coach and a Physical Education teacher at the University of Detroit Jesuit High School and Academy located in Detroit.

Prior to that, he taught at Saline High School for two years and at De La Salle Collegiate High School in Warren for seven years. As a head football coach and teacher, Lewis is well versed in discipline and also has diversity education experience.

Despite never attending Catholic Central as a student himself, Lewis’ father, Michael Lewis, graduated from Catholic Central in 1980 and was a Whalen Award recipient.

Lewis also grew up on Breakfast Drive near the old campus and is close friends with Michael and Joseph Mach, both graduates of the class of ‘03 and current teachers at CC.

Outside of his duties at work, Lewis is a dad to three little ones, including son, Jack, 8, daughter, Charley, 5, and son, Elliot, 2.

“I’m most looking forward to becoming a part of the Shamrock brotherhood and spending time with students,” Lewis stated.
