Catholic Central Announces Five 2026 National Merit Semifinalists

Detroit Catholic Central High School is proud to announce that five members of the Class of 2026 have been named Semifinalists in the 2026 National Merit Scholarship Program.

Congratulations to:

  • Jonah Barcelon ’26
  • Christian Curtis ’26
  • Krish Lal ’26
  • Austin Semp ’26
  • Gavin Tisch ’26

These students were recognized based on their outstanding performance on the Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test (PSAT/NMSQT). Semifinalists represent less than one percent of U.S. high school seniors and are among the highest-scoring entrants in their state. Catholic Central has a proud tradition of graduating National Merit Students, with this year bringing the total number of semifinalists to 20 in the last four years.

These five Shamrocks now have the opportunity to advance in the competition for National Merit Scholarships, which will be awarded in the spring.

We congratulate Jonah, Christian, Krish, Austin, and Gavin on this achievement and wish them the best as they continue in the competition!
