Novi, MI – June 11, 2026 – Catholic Central High School is proud to announce that Anthony Biondo has been elevated to Head Varsity Wrestling Coach following Mitch Hancock's retirement from coaching after 20 remarkable seasons.

"Anthony is everything right about the sport of wrestling.  A servant-leader who pours everything into our young men spiritually, mentally, and athletically, Coach Biondo knows what it means to be a man of Catholic Central. We look forward to him carrying on the tradition of Shamrock wrestling and taking the program to new heights," shared Athletic Director Aaron Babicz '93.

Coach Biondo has been an assistant coach for the Shamrocks for the last 15 years under Mitch Hancock, winning 11 MHSAA team state titles in that span and coaching over 70 MHSAA individual state champions. 

Coach Biondo wrestled collegiately at the University of Michigan and was a 3x MHSAA State Champion in high school. He has been married to his wife, Sarah, for 12 years, and they have three children: Cooper, Baker, and Rooney. Biondo will also assume the position of Assistant Dean of Students at Catholic Central in the fall.

"It is an honor and a blessing to follow in the footsteps of Lou Yeager, Mike Rodriguez, and Mitch Hancock before me. The standard will remain the same: develop young men of Catholic Central through Goodness, Discipline, and Knowledge on and off the wrestling mat. I have been lucky to work under and learn from the best to ever do it, in Mitch Hancock, and I am excited to carry on his legacy," stated Biondo.

Mitch Hancock has officially assumed the role of Principal for the 2026-2027 school year, becoming the first lay principal in school history. He most recently served as Assistant Principal for the 2025-2026 school year. 

During his final season as head wrestling coach, the Shamrocks captured their fourth consecutive MHSAA Division 1 Team Wrestling State Championship. The victory secured Catholic Central's 19th team state championship and the 12th under Hancock's leadership. All 12 of Hancock's state championships came since 2010, including two separate runs of four consecutive state titles.

“Coach Biondo is a believer in Christ, our program, and the values rooted in the Basilian mission. I’m excited for our students and the future of Catholic Central Wrestling. Most importantly, I’m confident that The Standard will not change,” stated Hancock.

Catholic Central welcomes Anthony Biondo into his new role and looks forward to the continued success of Catholic Central Wrestling. The school also congratulates Mitch Hancock on his appointment as Principal and thanks him for his remarkable contributions to the wrestling program and the broader Shamrock community.
