Career Conference Series Highlights Entrepreneurship and Firefighting

Catholic Central’s Career Conference series continued this week.

On Wednesday, April 22, brothers Anthony Tomey ’99 and Michael Tomey ’07 returned to campus to speak about entrepreneurship, sharing both practical advice and personal reflections on what it takes to succeed in business and in life. Their message centered on character as much as career.

“You can't be successful in life if you aren't good to others,” they told students. “Be good to people. Be kind. It will come back to you. Being disciplined is the most important thing for being successful.”

The Tomey brothers emphasized the importance of hard work, self-improvement, and making the most of the opportunities in front of you. They encouraged students to recognize the value of the Catholic Central community and the strength of its network.

“You have to work hard in anything you do. You have to find a way to make yourself better. Competition is great. It makes you better. You guys are all super blessed to be here. Do you know how big this network is here? Anything you need in life is here. No high school has this,” they said. “You won’t understand how great this place is until you leave.”

They also reminded students that success ultimately comes down to personal responsibility: “Everyone here wants to do well in life. You are what you do in life. People will give you opportunities. It’s what you do with it that matters.”

The series continued on Thursday, April 23, with Zach Sprys-Tellner ’17, who spoke about his career as a firefighter/EMT. Zach gave students an inside look at his role as a special teams firefighter, explaining the demands of the job, the training required, and the path to entering the field.

Thank you to our career conference series speakers for sharing their valuable insight and experiences with our students!
