Annual Canned Food Drive Brings In 5,000 Food Items and Raises $3,500

This year, the student council collected $3,500 and just under 5,000 food items during the annual canned food drive. Food items and money were donated to Loaves and Fishes of Southwest Detroit, a non-profit organization that helps feed local residents.

Additionally, the student council raised another $3,000 from a Spirit Day that was donated to the Feeding Detroit Kids Foundation, which was founded by Colin Stankovic ‘26.

The canned food drive is held every year during the first week of November. Last year, students collected 4,400 canned foods and $6,608 for Loaves and Fishes of Southwest Detroit and Grace Centers of Hope.

Shamrocks loaded the truck and delivered the food items to Loaves and Fishes themselves, a tradition dating back several years.
