Academic Team Wins 13th Consecutive Quiz Bowl State Championship

On Saturday, April 13, the Varsity Academic Team competed at the Michigan High School State Championship Tournament located on the University of Michigan campus and secured its 13th consecutive State Championship title.

The varsity A team of juniors Nick Murray, Jacob Barta, Chris Goolsby, and Ben Yancey swept the field with a perfect 10-0 record and defeated Grosse Pointe South in the finals by a score of 555-135. Junior captain Nick Murray was named to the All-State team.

With three more tournaments remaining before Nationals, the CC Quiz Bowl Team has an overall record of 104-9 on the season, has won five overall tournament championships, and is ranked 15th in the nation.

“The pressure to continue a streak of this magnitude is immense. To have a team of all juniors face that kind of pressure and still perform and succeed in such a dominant fashion is a testament to both their skill and determination as individuals and as a group,” stated Co-Head Coach of the Academic Team, Christopher Gismondi ‘00.
