Compared to other schools in the area, Catholic Central High School students get to experience summer vacation fun sooner as school typically lets out in May. The kicker is that they also have to go back earlier with the new school year starting in August.
Despite the early return to school, many CC students made the most of their summer vacation by traveling to some cool places throughout the globe.
We caught up with a few students after learning they spent some of their vacation overseas. Check them out below.
James Harrington ‘25 - Romania and Greece
My mom grew up in Romania and moved to the U.S when she was in about 7th grade. So, we went to visit some of my mom’s side of the family. They live on a vineyard in Ploiesti, which is about 30 minutes from Bucharest. We traveled there with our cousins who are also Romanian, but my aunt came over to the US a little after high school.
We were in Romania for about seven days. While we were there, we traveled around trying some food and got to see the process from growing the grapes to making wine to seeing how they bottle it up on the vineyard. Then we traveled to Santorini Greece for about three days.
In Greece, we tried a lot of food, visited some popular beaches that were all rocks, and just had a great time. That's a little summary of the trip.
Alex Elezaj ‘28 - Montenegro
I went to Montenegro because my family is from there. Some things I got to do was see the Our Lady of the Rocks in Kotor and I got to see the city of Kotor as well.
I also got to see the old town of Perast and Porto Montenegro. Some more cities I went to were the capital Podgorica where most of my family is from and a city right next to the border of Albania Ulqin where the rest of my family is from.
Joseph Airton ‘25 - Scotland
My family originally went to Masham, England to visit family as that is where my dad is from. We had made a trip taking the train up to Edinburgh with about 12 other family members.
In Edinburgh, we visited the Royal Mile and walked up the main castle on that stretch. We all eventually split off and did our things going shopping and walking around some more historical buildings. We all did a big bus tour that took us around the city, and we saw a bunch of new and old parts. We eventually took the train back to North Allerton.
A few days later, me and my dad drove up to Turnberry, where I played at The Trump Turnberry golf course. We stayed there for two days and the next day we went to the Open Championship golf tournament where we watched one of the most world-renowned tournaments played.
Brady Mason ‘25 - Kenya
I went to Kenya with my dad for two weeks for a safari. We went to three different camps in three different regions of the country.
When on safari, you go on a drive at about 6 a.m. every morning and come back at about 9:30 a.m. for breakfast. You don't go back out until 4:30 p.m. and come back for dinner around 7:30 p.m. You go out at sunrise and sunset because that is when the animals are most active.
