21 OCIT Students Welcomed Into Full Communion During Final All-School Mass

On Wednesday, May 1, 2024, 21 students from the Order of Christian Initiation For Teenagers (OCIT) program were welcomed into full communion during Catholic Central High School’s final all-school Mass.

"Our students' decision to open their lives to God and to express this in a concrete way through the sacraments is an encouragement to our school. This decision will stay with them for the rest of their lives. It will change the choices they make now as sons and brothers and in the future as husbands and fathers. I feel a deep sense of pride for my students. It's hard to overstate how rewarding it has been to accompany them," stated Theology Teacher and OCIT Advisor, Colin Whitehead.

The OCIT program began in October for the 2023-2024 school year. Students were first recognized during an all-school Mass held on Friday, December 8, 2023, during the Feast of Immaculate Conception Mass.

In February of 2023, the OCIT program attended the Cathedral in Detroit for the Rite of Election, where they were recognized by Archbishop Vigneron in preparation for receiving their sacraments.

The final step of the program came in March when students celebrated their scrutinies. During today’s mass, OCIT students were given Baptism and Confirmation rites by Bishop Donald Hanchon in front of the entire staff and student body, marking the completion of the program and full acceptance into the Catholic Church.

Students interested in joining the OCIT program next year can contact Mr. Colin Whitehead at cwhitehead@catholiccentral.net.
