10 Seniors Named National Merit Commended Students

Detroit Catholic Central is proud to celebrate 10 seniors named National Merit Commended Students by the National Merit Scholarship Corporation (NMSC). 

Nicholas Barnaby, Andrew Bianchi, Joseph Burke, Josh Lassaline, Patrick Michel, Arnav Pulpa, Pablo Razny, Jack Sharkey, Joseph Stopczynski, and Ryan Taylor received recognition by the College Board for remarkable achievement on the PSAT, often placing in the top 3% nationally. Learn more about our commended students, including hometown, campus involvement, and reflections on their time at Catholic Central.

NMSC, a not-for-profit organization that operates without government assistance, was established in 1955 to honor the nation's scholastic champions and encourage the pursuit of excellence in academics. 

This year, Catholic Central recognizes 23 total scholars across National Merit Semifinalists, National Merit Commended Students, National Achievement Scholars (Black American Scholars), and National Hispanic Recognition Program Students.

Matthew Haarala ’25 has done just that by giving back to his fellow Shamrock brothers and setting a 44-day tutoring record.
