On Tuesday, February 9, 2021, the Detroit Catholic Central varsity hockey team defeated Cranbrook Kingswood School by a score of 2 to 0 in a game held at the USA Arena.
"It was a lot of fun being back at the rink for a game," Head Coach Brandon Kaleniecki '00 said. "Despite the limited spectators and all the protocols, you could feel the buzz in the air and the excitement from both sides."
Nich Borchardt ‘21 and Brendan Cwiek ’21 each scored for the Shamrocks. Nate Grondzeileski ‘23 and Brett Beale ‘21 each posted an assist. Goalie Bob Masters ‘22 had 17 saves in the shutout to start the season.
"As far as the game went, we were able to jump out to a 2-0 lead in the first and our goaltender Bobby Masters was a huge reason why we were able to hold onto that lead for the remainder of the game," said Coach Kal. "It was what you would expect from a first game in terms of the mix of good things and not so good things. Now we need to build on this and continue to improve."
CC is back on the ice tonight at 7pm against DeLaSalle Collegiate. The game will be held at Mt. Clemens Arena. Tickets are not available but you can follow the team on Twitter for updates (@DCCHockey)
