Ed Farragher '62

"I want to help kids who might not be able to afford Catholic Central to get the same training, and make the same kind of friendships, that I did. It's important."
Though it has been a half-century since Edward Farragher, Ph.D., was a student at Detroit Catholic Central High School, the passing years haven't dimmed memories of an exceptional education or the start of lasting friendships.

"My high school education—the math, learning and reading skills-became very important in my life," says Ed, a native of Detriot and a 1962 Catholic Central graduate. He now lives in Rochester, Mich.

"I also learned discipline and goodness and the desire to achieve. Together, it gave me the base to proceed further and eventually earn a Ph.D.

"The friendships I developed in high school," he says, "have continued until today. I am very proud to hang around with the same people today that I hung around with at age 14."

To give back—to thank Catholic Central for the significant influence it has had on his life—Ed has been a generous donor to the school. In particular, he made a donation to name a classroom in honor of his father and will contribute to the school's endowed scholarship fund through a bequest in his estate plan.

"My education at Catholic Central and the teachers I had are the reasons I pursued a career in education," says Ed, who earned his doctorate in finance from the University of Illinois and most recently taught at Oakland University.
"Catholic Central was a very good school when I went there, and it seems to stack up just as well today-maybe better. They're still doing an excellent job educating students," Ed says, "and that's another reason I contribute.

"I want to help kids who might not be able to afford Catholic Central to get the same training, and make the same kind of friendships, that I did. It's important."
